What is Zero FIR?
Zero FIR is a First Information Report that can be filed at any police station regardless of jurisdiction. The police station then assigns '0' as the FIR number and transfers the FIR to the appropriate police station having jurisdiction over the place of occurrence.
Key Point: Zero FIR ensures immediate action in emergencies, especially in cases of sexual assault, accidents, and crimes against women where delay could be fatal.
When to File Zero FIR?
- When the crime occurs in a different jurisdiction
- When the victim is unsure about the exact location of occurrence
